Who Do We Provide with Surveillance Investigation?

While surveillance investigations can have a range of applications, certain types of parties require surveillance of a person or place due to the nature of their corporate or civil litigation. We have extensive experience working with these types of clients, providing investigations tailored to their specific needs.

Insurance companies often use surveillance to gather evidence in cases where fraud is suspected. Our team provides a seamless experience honed over countless engagements with insurance clients and legal professionals who specialize in the industry.

Employers may require corporate surveillance, especially concerning workers’ compensation fraud claims. We operate discreetly and ethically to meet these needs, working directly with the organization and/or legal team to ensure strong communication and proper documentation.

We serve legal teams who require surveillance investigations to support their cases. With a team comprised of legal professionals and surveillance investigators, we’re uniquely positioned to provide value to legal clients as a third party. Additionally, our team is able to help with administrative elements such as serving, mailing, and copying documents.

What Are the Most Common Types of Surveillance Services We Provide?

We provide corporate and private surveillance to obtain evidence for family law, workers’ compensation, personal injury, or missing person cases.

Personal injury-related insurance fraud is a growing problem nationwide. In fact, insurance fraud costs insurance companies more than $40 billion per year.

When a claimant deliberately deceives an insurance company for financial gain, gathering evidence to build a case is crucial. Our professionals will review the claim and conduct a covert surveillance investigation to capture evidence of the claimant’s daily mobility.

An estimated $9 billion of annual fraud stems from claims filed by workers misrepresenting injuries or receiving benefits from the wrong employer. Our surveillance services provide crucial evidence, such as video and photographic proof, to accurately assess the state of an employee’s injury in a workers’ compensation case.

The child custody process is emotionally taxing, but even more so when there are fears that a child could be in irresponsible, negligent, or dangerous hands. Confirming those fears and supporting the narrative in court often requires a surveillance investigation of the parent or guardian in question.

Our team works within the boundaries of the law to capture evidence for the case, while conducting surveillance in a manner that puts the child first. As child custody investigators, we work with law firms to understand how an individual interacts with their child(ren), whether they are safe, and if they are taken care of adequately.

When someone is missing, our surveillance detectives can help track them down — even when an individual has left town or is making other concerted efforts not to be located.

Thanks to our expertise in skip tracing, we can help find any individual for the purpose of debt recovery, criminal or civil matters, and service of process, including:

  • Witnesses
  • Debtors
  • Defendants
  • Previous employee
  • Missing child
  • Missing person
  • Adopted child
  • Biological parent

Additionally, we provide surveillance investigations to support the following types of cases and inquiries:

  • Covert surveillance
  • Private investigation surveillance services
  • Due diligence investigations
  • Patent and copyright law
  • Corporate surveillance
  • Fraud
  • Embezzlement
  • Kickbacks
  • Scams by employees, customers, vendors, or contractors
  • Activity monitoring via social media surveillance

Surveillance Investigation FAQs

Surveillance is the act of monitoring, tracking, and documenting an individual’s behavior. It’s one of the tools that could supply an investigation with relevant evidence, but far from the only one.

A surveillance investigator is a trained and licensed professional who conducts covert surveillance to gather information and evidence related to an investigation. They are typically an independent third party providing services to legal, private, and corporate clients. They may or may not be considered a surveillance detective.

The two terms are often used interchangeably because there is some overlap in their methodologies. However, the subtle difference is that a sub rosa investigation is broader in scope. It may include surveillance techniques, but it can also use a wide range of other investigative methods, including disguise and infiltration.

Surveillance investigators are hired to gather evidence and information to better understand the facts in a legal proceeding. For example, an employer who believes an employee is committing workers’ compensation fraud could use surveillance to verify the claim that the employee is injured, or find they are not.

Surveillance detectives and investigators use an advanced mix of tools and techniques to observe and document the activities of a subject. Often this includes a mix of both physical and digital surveillance. Physical surveillance will use hidden cameras and other high-end visual technology to observe activities in public places. Whereas digital surveillance requires a strong understanding of the digital landscape and cutting-edge tools used to gather information from social media and beyond.

Our team will first meet with the client and/or legal team to understand the specific surveillance needs and relevant nuances of the legal proceedings. Then, we use a mix of modern techniques and technology to monitor and document an individual’s activity both on- and offline.

Upon completion of surveillance, we compile our findings into a detailed report and provide testimony down the road if required. The reports we provide may include written observations, photographs, video recordings, or any other evidence collected during the surveillance process.

Because we focus primarily on surveillance for legal cases, we are able to gather and share information with the proper consideration of legal ramifications and admissibility in court.

The budget for any given case varies depending on the specifics of the case and the work is billed hourly. For example, in the case of marital infidelity surveillance, most investigations start with a budget of between $3,500-$5,500, but can be much more.

The average day of surveillance lasts 9-12 hours, depending on the subject’s activity level. As a general rule, we usually recommend a minimum of 3 days of surveillance, though additional days are often required to accomplish the investigation objectives.

We typically avoid “activity checks” (the practice of doing surveillance in 2-4 hour spurts). We’ve found that they’re an ineffective way of determining a subject’s activity level unless we have very specific information about a subject’s schedule.
